portraits & commissions
Portraits and commission enquiries are welcomed. The general procedure is outlined below.
INITIAL MEETING
The process begins with a meeting where we will discuss the size and spirit of the commission. Together we will work out and define the questions of pose, lighting, costume, setting and atmosphere.
THE PRELIMINARY STUDY
Back in the studio, the preliminary visualization of the proposed commission is developed based on previous discussion and intuition. We will then discuss and agree on the preliminary approach for the work.
THE FINAL SITTING
The final sitting takes place at the location of choice. Extensive photographic reference material is created to allow development and progression of the painting after the sitting concludes.
STUDIO WORK
There then follows a sustained period of studio work in which the details of the composition are developed. The painting is brought to completion and it is ready for display. A 3/4 length portrait will take approximately 6 weeks to complete.
FRAMING
The appropriate frame for the finished portrait can be selected in conjunction with the client.
EXAMPLE FEES
Head and shoulders -20″ x 16″ £1,950.
Half length – 30” x 24” £2,950.
¾ Length – 36” x 24” £3,750.
Sizes are in inches, other sizes are available on request.
*All paintings are created using the highest quality oil paints and mediums.
*All supports are custom made using Russell & Chapple branded stretchers and the finest quality Artists Linen or Canvas.
*Framing is not included in the price.
*25% deposit secures agreed commission
