“Herring Lassies carrying crans” – Work in Progress, Oil on Canvas, 34 x 24 inches. This is a black and raw sienna Frottee on a blue/black Imprimatura.

The backdrop for the Herring Lassies series of paintings is Newhaven harbour. I will initiate another couple of paintings and then work on them all concurrently.

Portrait Commision – Aleksandra Stattin

This is a portrait commission of the lovely Aleksandra Stattin. The setting is the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh. It’s oil on canvas, 40 x 30 inches.

Aleksandra is a stage and screen actress based in New York. It was a great pleasure to have the opportunity to meet and paint her. The portrait commissioned by her husband Gordon will be hung in their Manhattan apartment.

This painting is a head study of the Virgin Mary from the sculpture of La Pieta by Michaelangelo in the Vatican in Rome.

Black and White on a grey toned canvas. Using Lavendar Spike Oil in the mix for this, I like the handling but it don’t half pong!

Portrait Commission – Kenny Welch

Kenny Welch - Final

This is a portrait commission of Kenny Welch. It’s oil on canvas, 48 x 36 inches and will be hung in the Welch Fish shop at 23 Pier Place, Newhaven Harbour, Edinburgh, Scotland.

Kenny is 78 years old and is a true gentlemen. It has been a privilege to meet and paint him. He still works at the shop and it is a pleasure to watch a master fishmonger preparing the fish with effortless skill. Kenny has worked in the business for 64 years. His daily routine is in bed at 9pm, up at 4am and in the shop for 6am. If you get an opportunity, then pop into the shop early in the morning and watch him work and of course check out the painting.
