The Letter - Frottee

This is the start of the fifth painting in my new series – “Aspects of Edinburgh“. The working title for this painting is “The Letter”, it’s oil on canvas, 40 x 30 inches – Work in Progress.

A time shift into the past for this piece. A war time 1940’s feel to this painting. The background is a view to the Forth Rail Bridge from South Queensferry. The first German air attack of the 2nd World War took place over the FRB when German bombers came to destroy ships at Rosyth Naval Dockyard. Spitfires from Turnhouse were scrambled and drove off the bombers, shooting down two of them. There is interesting eye witness testimony from people who witnessed the attack as their train came onto the bridge during the raid. Lots more info about this on the web…

This painting will be part of my next exhibition at the Dundas Street Gallery, Edinburgh which will run from Saturday 22nd March to Saturday 29th March 2014.
