Have not posted much recently as I’m busy working on private commissions at the moment. One thing I can post is the latest painting in my mythological series, it’s called “High Priestess of Calanais” , oil on canvas, 30 x 20 inches.

Not much is known of the megalithic people who built massive stone structures around the world and this is true of Calanais (or Callanish) on the Isle of Lewis. The initial building of the structure started in 2900 BC (almost 6000 years ago, possibly pre-dating the pyramids in Egypt). The stones themselves are Lewisian gneiss which are over 3 billion years old, the oldest stone in the UK and some of the oldest stone in the world. What we do know is that every 18.6 years a lunar standstill can be witnessed at Calanais where the moon traverses the stones. It is thought that a ceremony involved some sort of ritual which would draw down the lunar power, through the stones, into the earth and on through the ley lines… and possibly into themselves.

The last time this happened was 2006 the next time will be 2025.
