Druantia - 2nd Painting (Detail) Druantia - 2nd Painting

This is the latest progress on “Druantia”, (Queen of the Druids). As it’s a large painting I’ve also posted a detail from it so you can get a better look. This piece will get some further painting before completion. The backdrop is Roslin Glen, a beautiful spot where there used to be an old gun powder factory which was active during the Napoleonic wars and not far from the wonderful Rosslyn Chapel. The model is the captivating Ulorin Vex.

Oil on canvas, 60 x 30 inches (5 feet x 3 feet!) – Work in Progress.

Herbert Draper Study - 2nd Painting

Not posted for a while! Have been researching my next heritage project in the Outer Hebrides, one of the most magical places I have been, filled with fantastic people.

Anyway more of that to follow. I plan to start my Harris Tweed paintings in October.

In the meantime I have been working on a small series of female figure paintings. This one is a study of a Herbert James Draper (1864 – 1920) painting called “By summer seas”. I like his work very much. Herbert’s original painting sold at Bonham’s a few years ago for £350,000. I forgot to photograph the stages of this as I proceeded. This piece will get one final painting before it’s completed. Work in Progress, oil on canvas, 20 x 16 inches.
